A virtual Christmas

This year, I have to be thankful for all of the people I've reconected with, many of whom I hadn't "seen" for many, many years. I've also made many new friends, and I'm very happy to have them in my cirle. This Christmas is going to be totally virtual for me: here at home, and all of those whom I love close to me, digitally. I wait for my mom and brother on skype, and I'm on Facebook, chatting with all of those who want to say hi. Social networks have been great tools for everyone, but I feel that they have been specially useful for immigrants, like myself. Many of us are in the United States, and can't leave the country, but with these tools we do not feel as far away as we used to anymore. And even though these media do not replace physical presence, they have reduced some of its importance. And they have added emphasis on a global connection too. Physical borders surpassed by digital connections... Virtual congregations. Non-carnal love. ♥♥
